Tree of Life Christian Preparatory School

A ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Thank you for your interest in Tree of Life Christian Preparatory School.  We are dedicated to fulfilling the high educational, spiritual and personal goals of each of our students.

Selecting the right school for your child is an important process that should be prayerfully and thoughtfully considered.  Please read the information enclosed in this packet carefully.  Tree of Life Christian Preparatory School wants to enter into partnership with parents whose primary desire is a Christ-centered education for their children.  Our vision is that your home, church and school will work together to “prepare young minds for eternity.”

The following are the steps for application and admission to the school.

Step 1.  Visit

Tree of Life Christian Preparatory School encourages interested families to schedule a visit to the school.  This visit will focus on the school’s program and philosophy.  Any questions you may have regarding the school, its procedures and policies will be addressed.

Step 2.  Application Packet

Take the time to fill out the enclosed application forms as completely as possible. Please note that Virginia law requires: “An official certified copy of the child’s birth record must be provided. (A photocopy of the child’s birth certificate will not meet this requirement.)”

The following is a checklist of items to include when returning the packet.  It will help to ensure that your application is complete:

*Completed Application for Admission                                                        *Completed Reference Form

*Completed Non-Relative Reference Form                                                 *Completed Financial Information Form

*Completed Student Transportation Form                                                   *Physical exams for all new students

*A certified copy of each applicant’s birth record                                       *Completed essay (grades 5-8)

*$150 Registration Fee/per student (refundable)                                       *Transcripts from former school

*$50.00 Application Fee/per student (non refundable)                              *School Health Records

*Completed Emergency Contact & Health Information Sheet

If currently home-schooling, a home-school report must be provided as well as recent test scores.

Step 3.  Interviews and Testing

When all forms and school transcripts have been received and reviewed, we will contact you to set up a time for the student’s interview with the teacher and any needed testing.  All 5th – 8th grade applicants will need to interview with the Admissions Committee.

Step 4.  Admissions Decision

Admissions decisions are made by the Admissions Committee and the School Board.  They will be made in the best interests of the prospective student, his or her family, and the school.  We believe that it is a privilege, not a right, for a family to be a part of the Tree of Life Christian

Preparatory School family.  Acceptance is determined on a combination of criteria including previous school performance, the interview (or interviews), emotional maturity of the child and his or her ability to benefit from our program, as well as a completed application packet.

Tree of Life Christian Preparatory School is not equipped to adequately meet the needs of some emotional, physical or learning disabilities.  Parents seeking to enroll a child with a previously diagnosed learning disability must provide an IEP or student’s accommodation plan from their previous school before admission can be considered.  As for physical disabilities, the parent must provide written verification of what accommodations are required for their child. Each situation will be evaluated on an individual basis.

You will be notified of the board’s decision by phone as well as by mail.  All new students to TLC Prep are on probationary status for their first 30 days.

Step 5.  Enrollment

Upon receipt of your first month’s tuition, the enrollment process will be complete.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.  We look forward to partnering with you in the education of your child.

Sincerely,

Janet Armstrong, Principal
