“I have told you this so that you will be filled with My joy.
Yes, your joy will overflow!
I command you to love each other in the same way that I love you.”
John 15:11,12
*Lunches of Love –
Our annual Lunches of Love is one week from Tuesday, which is Valentine’s Day. This is the day when you make a very special lunch for your child: it might all of their favorite lunch “goodies”; a special note tucked inside; or maybe even having lunch brought from their favorite take-out place; etc. (you get the idea). Younger children love it when you cut their sandwiches into a special shape. Believe it or not, even our older students look forward to the Lunches of Love. J The lunch room will be decorated in a special way as well. A special treat will be provided by Mrs. A for all of the children. Remember, this takes place on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14.
*Spaghetti dinner –
The dinner has been changed to Saturday, March 3. We are asking that each school family bring three jars of spaghetti sauce and three pounds of spaghetti, by the February 17. The children are working hard on preparing for their part as the evening’s entertainment. We are asking that the children wear their formal uniforms for this evening. They should be at the school no later than 5:30.
*Science Fair –
In order to give the children 6 full weeks of prep time, we have moved the Science Fair to Thursday evening March 15 (from March 8). A detailed information packet will be sent home with each student on Monday. The children in grades 5-8 have been asked to come on Monday with 2-3 ideas of projects they would like to do, and whether it’s an invention, experiment or research project.
*Labels for Education
A note from Rita Funk –
There are now seven (7) magazines that are eligible if you purchase them at the store or news stand. They are not eligible if you subscribe to them! Repeat, if you purchase one of the below magazines at the grocery, please clip the UPC code on the front and save them for me.
They are worth 5 points each!
Southern Living, People, Real Simple, Time, Cooking Light, Health, & ALL YOU
I also wanted to mention that if anyone buys:
Campbell's Tomato Juice, V8 Vegetable Juice, V8 V-Fusion, V8 Splash,
they should save the lids for me, because they are worth points.
ALSO
Prego Italian Sauces, Pace Salsas & Picante Sauce, Franco American Gravies,
Campbell's Gravies, & Wolfgang Puck Sauces
Save the lids for me.
I mention the juices and sauces because since I took over this program we haven't collected a single lid. I am not sure if it is because no one uses these products, or no one knows to collect them? My final box tops submission for this school year will be the end of February, and the school will receive a check by April 15.
Please give me any box tops you are saving by Sabbath, February 25th.
*Closings and delays –
As the cold weather is now upon us, it’s time to think about what we do for inclement weather. We follow Spotsylvania County for closing and delays. FYI – you can go to spotsyalert.com and sign up for instant alerts/messages for school closings and delays (as well as other notifications). These messages can be sent via text, email or both.
If we have a one or two hour delay, M-Th, it will not affect our dismissal time. Because we need to have a minimum of four hours to qualify for a school day, delays will affect Friday dismissals. Therefore, a one hour delay means we dismiss at 1:00pm, and a two hour delay will mean a 2:00pm dismissal. Please read page 4 of the Handbook for more information.
