HEALTH AND TEMPERANCE
Laws of Health
"Of these thou may freely eat:"
(Genesis 2:16)

To cut the risk of cancer, heart disease, and stroke, people need to eat more fruits and vegetables, and much less fatty foods, especially food containing animal products and their byproducts.
Health and Temperance Ministries promotes good health and the prevention of ill health, to help men and women achieve the goal of wholeness which Christ desires for us.
Godly Trust
Godly trust is the same as faith, as it is taught in the Bible.
It says “God hath dealt with every man a measure of faith.” Romans 12:3
We apply this trust to our lives by accepting Jesus Christ in to our lives as our personal Savior.
“You must be born again” (John 3:17). We have to repent our sins, asking God to forgive and cleanse us, and give us power to live a new life.
“Walk in the Spirit of God, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16.
God has placed many promises in the Bible for us. In 3 John 2 it says, “Beloved, I wish above all thing that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prosper.” And if we read His word and believe it and then act upon it, we will have that faith.
The next step is prayer. “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. Psalm119:11
Prayer is essential for healing. We should pray like Jesus did in saying “Thy will be done.” When we do this we submit our lives to Him and He knows what is best for us.
When we trust in the Great Physician that is faith. Stress is the major causes of disease and death in modern society.
People are living in a state of fear and worry. This is burning out the life forces. This is why we need to have Godly trust, without trust in God there will always be stress. Stress will cause the adrenals to secrete hormones which will raise blood pressure. Prolonged stress will lessen the ability of the adrenals to secrete hormones which will in turn increase the production of
hydrochloric acid and pepsin in the stomach.
Godly trust produces endorphins because this hormone builds the immune system and therefore aids the body in eliminating the toxins. Godly trust is the antidote for stress. As we tell others what God has done for us, trust in Him increases. We should always be ready to tell others how God is working in our lives. Telling others brings us even closer to God.
Remember: You are a sermon in shoes.
Open Air
78% Nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% of other gases, is what fresh air composed of.
The human body cannot live without food for a few weeks, and not see death.
Without water for a few days, you’ll die. Without air for a few minutes, your existence will be no more.
The cells of our immune system are known as “aerobic” cells. It means the cells need oxygen to live. Disease and cancer cells are “anaerobic” cells, meaning they live in low oxygen cell levels. Fresh air is needed for every cell in the body and it purifies the blood. It is the most important essential ingredient for a healthy cell. We should go out into the fresh country air and breathe deeply each day. When we breathe properly, the stomach should go out as we inhale and then return to its former position as we exhale.
Deep breathing takes practice and should be done three times a day.
We can’t always be out in the open air, but we should have our windows cracked or open in our home and work places to receive fresh air.
It is also important to have fresh air while sleeping, but don’t sleep under a draft.
And God said, let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters; and let it divide the waters from the waters. (Genesis 1:6)
Exercising out in the fresh air is excellent – gardening, walking or swimming- getting the fresh oxygen into our cells. Open air also provides negative ions which have a tonic affect on the body, strengthening the immune system. Fresh air is a blessing from Heaven.
(Genesis 2:7) “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of live, and man became a living soul.”
Remember: “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Daily Exercise
Exercise brings oxygen to the cells, kidneys, lungs, and liver and muscles of the body. It also helps the adrenal hormones and is good for the skin. It aids chest expansion and resistance to disease, promotes growth and absorbs calcium in to the body. It will cause you to perspire and helps with elimination in the bloodstream.
Exercise helps with circulation of the blood and digestion in the stomach. It tones the nerves and produces endorphins; strengthens the heart and gives you energy. It lowers triglycerides and promotes weight loss, which in turn helps you live longer. It is important to God that we engage in daily activity.
“God put them in the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it” (Genesis2:15).
It is one of the greatest remedies for stress; it is necessary for the lymphatic system and helps fight colds, coughs, congestion of the brain and cancer.
Exercise relaxes the body, promotes sound sleep and relieves tension and anxiety. Without daily exercise, the blood will become a stagnant pool of waste because of the lack of adequate circulation. It’s the same as never changing the oil in your car. Perfect circulation is impossible with daily exercise.
Walking on a treadmill is one of the best exercises because it brings all of the organs into use. Walk as far as is comfortable and gradually work up a five miles a day. Don’t overdo it!
“Nevertheless, I must walk today, and tomorrow, and the day after” (Luke 13:33).
Another very beneficial form of exercise is outdoor labor. All should learn the benefits of gardening.
Not only is this great exercise, but it is a way to eat the foods of your own labor.
A rebounder has been found to be very beneficial in building the immune system and the lymphatic system. Three to five minutes on a rebounder is equivalent to one mile of jogging and this exercise affects every muscle of the body. Rebounding will not affect your joints and will not shock them with a sudden impact as running or jogging and this exercise affects every muscle of the body.
Rebounding will not affect your joints as will not shock them with a sudden impact as running or jogging on a hard surface does.
Circuit training, namely aerobics and weight training, is one of the best ways to exercise. Working out on a bike, stair climber, treadmill or Nordic Trak ski machine four times a week for thirty minutes is also excellent. Adding strength training to that would be of great benefit to people of all ages. Try to exercise at least thirty minutes a day. Daily exercise and diet are the key elements to staying healthy.
Remember: If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.
Sunshine
Sunlight stimulates the liver, increases circulation, oxygen and white blood cells. Sunshine changes cholesterol to Vitamin D, which is essential for the absorption of calcium in the body. God has placed remarkable healing power in sunshine.
“Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun” (Ecclesiastes 11:7)
Sunshine improves arthritis, lowers blood pressure, destroys bacteria on the skin and reverses jaundice. Studies show that, as the amount of available sunlight increases, the incidence of internal cancer decreases. The total cancer deaths of the various American states and Canadian provinces are shown to fall with increasing available sunlight. Get a little bit of sunshine each day. Sunshine, not sunburn! Start with 10-15minutes a day exposing the face and hands to sun. Gradually increase your exposure time to 30-45 minutes daily. Do not get sunburn.
The best times for sunbathing are between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and between 4:30 and 5:30p.m.
Sunshine increases adrenaline and without the sun, nothing would live. It promotes the healing of
wounds. Take daily walks out in the sun and in the open fresh air. Just as plants grow in the sun, so should we as humans place ourselves in the sunshine to receive its life-giving, healthful power.
“But unto them that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings”
(Malachi 4:2)
Human beings, like plants, need adequate sunshine. Sunshine is a powerful agent in fighting disease. It helps to relax tension, produce mental alertness and improve the complexion. Physical fitness is increased when exercise is taken outdoors.
Our homes should be open to an abundance of sunlight. All rooms, especially sleeping rooms, should be well supplied with this gift of nature.
REMEMBER: “Where the sun shines in, the doctor stays away. He is green before the sun, and his branch shoots forth in his garden. Job 8:16
Proper Rest
With out Proper rest, energy will be used up by the immune system a lot faster than it can be restored, and tissue will break down faster than it can be rebuilt. Poisons will be formed faster than they can be eliminated.
It is during periods of rest that the tissue in the body is rebuilt. One hour of sleep before midnight is worth more than two hours of sleep after midnight.
Rest restores strength to the nerves, brain and muscles. The body needs rest to heal, especially when we are sick. We need physical, sensory emotional and mental rest. “He rested the seventh day from all His work which He had made” (Genesis 2:2). You need eight hours of sleep per night and don’t forget to take time to be restful at a mountainside, forest, or streams, taking walks in the country or reading the scriptures.
“Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
A relaxing soak in a warm tub of water will help relax you. Soaking in warm water before going to bed will help you sleep better.
We should avoid stressful situations, confusion, television and loud
noises. Supper, if eaten at all, should be early and light so the
digestive system will not be working all night.
Relaxing herbs include valerian, skullcap, hops, chamomile, peppermint and vervain.
Make a smoothing tea from these herbs.
One hundred million Americans suffer from insomnia and other twenty million complain of chronic sleep problems. Americans take about 600 tons of sleeping pills a year. Rest is so important to each and every one of us.
“Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while; for there were may coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat” (Mark 6:31). Christ said to go apart and rest awhile. Recreation is a form of rest. To camping out in nature, cook natural food over a campfire, sleep outdoors, get plenty of fresh air away from work and normal daily activities.
Christ told us to even rest one day a week from all work and physical activities.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shall thou labor, and do all they work. But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, not thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy dates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it" Exodus 20:8-11).
Rest is even important to our cardiovascular system. Energy will be used up by the cardiovascular system faster than it can restore it. Tissue will be broken down faster than it can be rebuilt and poisons will be formed faster than they can be eliminated. Rest is very important for perfect health.
REMEMBER: It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep” (Ps.127:2).
Lots of Water
“Whosoever drink of this water shall thirst again; but whosoever drink of that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14).
Ok, here we are the sixth one; water. Are you drinking enough? Yes, pure water not coke not soda not juice, pure water--plain H2O. The body is 75% water. The vital organs are at least 70% water.
The human brain and blood are 80% water and other body fluids total 90%.
Water increases circulation, oxygen and blood volume. Water is essential for normal bowel function and is necessary to sustain human life. We need water internally and externally. Internally, water builds the immune system and cleanses the cells. Bathing externally keeps the skin clean and brushing the skin removes dead cells. Hydrotherapy consists of hot and cold treatments which increase circulation, increase oxygen carrying red blood cells by 20 to 35 percent and increase cancer fighting white blood cells
by 200 to 300 percent.
What kind of water should we drink? Don’t drink water containing fluoride, chloride, chemicals, metals and pesticides. Fluoride is derived from fluorine, a deadly chemical to humans. It can cause cancer eventually as it builds up in the body.
Not only is it in water, but toothpaste is the second largest source of fluorine next to water. Fluorides attack almost everything. Distilled water is the best water to drink. Our bodies lose an average of about 3 to 5 quarts of water a day. We need to drink a minimum of eight, 8-ouce glasses of water every day.
Upon rising, drink two glasses of pure warm distilled water with half a lemon in each glass.
During the day, one should drink water between meals being careful not to drink too close to each mealtime. Drink 30 minutes before a meal and two hours afterwards. This is because we don’t want the water to interfere with digestive fluids.
The external use of water is excellent. Using hot and cold treatments, or hydrotherapy, is excellent for internal healing. Four minutes of hot water and the 30 seconds of cold are effective. This helps with colds, flu, high blood pressure and increases circulation. It also strengthens the immune system and works wonders for cancer.
“In health and in sickness, pure water is one of Heaven’s choicest blessings. Its proper use promotes health. It is the beverage which God provided to quench the thirst of animals and man kind.
Drunk freely, it helps to supply the necessities of the system and assists nature of resistance to disease. The external application of water is one of the easiest and most satisfactory ways of regulating circulation of the blood. Water is the best liquid possible to cleanse the tissues.” (My Life today, P.139).
Jesus said “I am the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. To him who thirsts, I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely.” (Revelation 21:6).
Thou shalt drink also water by measure, of one sixth of a hin: from time to time shall you drink.”
(Ezekiel 4:11).
Remember: Choose living water, so it will become in you a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
